I often notice my personality switches when I write or speak in different languages.

Probably because I write lyrics in Chinese, my Chinese writing tends to be more mournfully poetic and emotionally captivating, and you might find lots of wordplay and rhyming in it (I’ve even caught myself doing so while texting my friends).

Whereas English feels more natural when it comes to expressing my analytical thoughts. Since I consume mostly non-fiction content in English — whether it’s blog posts, books, podcasts, or as you might have guessed, Reels — it’s where I find it easier to articulate myself.

Translation has come a long way, but some of the nuances I care about, especially wordplay, don't travel quite so well between languages. So I'd rather keep each piece in the language I originally wrote it in.
